No One Wants To Be Famous & Financially Unstable – Eni Adeoluwa
At the announcement of the release of Lisabi: The Uprising in August 2024, there were opinions as to why there was always a repetition of faces in Nollywood movies and questions as to why fresh faces are not being seen in movies. One such opinion was from social media user, Osetbaby which we reported earlier on. In his analysis, he said that the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood) has become a “friends and family business” and went forward to use the phrase “Same face every time.”
He drew a comparison with Hollywood citing that never in the same year would you see the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Tom Cruise in multiple movies. His opinion was that the diversity of faces and freshness it brought was what made their movies exciting and unique to see.
This opinion did not stop at just one social media user as more people have been coming out to voice the same opinion as more films are being announced and released which certainly have the regular faces which has been appearing in movies before now. But to put this discussion to a level of rest, Nigerian actor, lifestyle influencer, content creator, and entrepreneur Enioluwa Adeoluwa has in a tweet explained why the same faces keeps popping up in different movies multiple times in a year.
In the tweet, he gave the paycheck difference between a Nollywood and Hollywood actor as one of the reasons while ending the tweet with the statement ‘no one wants to be famous and financially unstable’. Below is his complete tweet he put out on the 11th of November 2024.
‘People often say they’re tired of seeing the same faces in Nigerian films. However, unlike in Hollywood, actors in Nigeria can’t afford to do just one film a year-how much are they paying. The industry currently can’t support as many newcomers as people might expect because, realistically, many of them wouldn’t be able to meet even their basic needs. No one wants to be famous and financially unstable.’
