Kambili Ofili’s ‘Shaping Us’ Wins Best Film at TINFF
Kambili Ofili’s film, *Shaping Us*, has won the Best Film – African Diaspora award at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF). Earlier this year, the film received nominations in six categories, including Best Drama and Best Film – Nollywood.
Ofili, a rising British-Nigerian filmmaker and founder of Clear Skies Films & Production, aims to highlight relatable and diverse African narratives through high-quality cinematography. Her company focuses on producing films that challenge stereotypes and promote meaningful change.
In her debut project, *Shaping Us*, Ofili took on multiple roles as producer, writer, director, and actor, despite having no prior industry experience. Reflecting on her achievement, she shared her passion and gratitude: “I poured my heart and soul into this film, and I’m incredibly humbled by the recognition it has received. I hope *Shaping Us* will spark conversations and foster empathy around often stigmatized topics, helping viewers feel seen and understood.”
Co-produced by Edith Nwakenta, the film explores the lives of six friends as they face the complexities of adulthood, tackling issues like infertility, postpartum depression, and divorce, all while highlighting the enduring strength of friendship.
While the release date is yet to be announced, *Shaping Us* features a talented ensemble cast, including Bucci Franklin, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Omowunmi Dada, James Gardiner, Floyd Igbo, Jordan Bangoji, and a cameo from Lasisi Elenu.
