FilmOne’s Farmer’s Bride Expands to Francophone Africa – In Cinemas Now!
The movie has officially been released, marking its arrival in cinemas as of September 27, 2024. Prior to its release, Farmer’s Bride was also scheduled to debut in theaters across all Francophone nations. The film distributor, Filmone Entertainment, shared the exciting update on its Instagram page.
“Big News, We are excited to announce that #FarmersBrideMovie isn’t just taking over Nigeria—it’s going international! Starting Sept 27th, we’re hitting cinemas across all Francophone countries! Get ready for an epic film that will be loved by all,” the post declared. This means Farmer’s Bride is now available in cinemas across Francophone African nations such as Senegal, Benin Republic, Togo, Burkina Faso, and Congo.
Produced by Filmone Studios, the creators of Adire, the movie was teased earlier this year as their latest original release. FilmOne Studios is a major Nigerian production house, dedicated to producing African stories for both local and global audiences. The company is a branch of the Filmhouse Group, a prominent media and entertainment firm based in Lagos, Nigeria. Farmer’s Bride tells a captivating story set in 1980s Ibadan, following the life of Odun, a wealthy but lonely farmer who marries a young woman named Funmi. Their marriage, however, faces numerous hurdles, as Funmi struggles to find contentment. This leads her into an illicit relationship with Odun’s nephew, sparking a series of tragic events marked by love, betrayal, and the supernatural.
The film is directed by Adebayo Tijani and Jack’enneth Opukeme, and features a strong ensemble cast. This includes Tobi Bakre (Gangs of Lagos), Gbubemi Ejeye (Far From Home), Femi Branch (House of Gaa), Mercy Aigbe (Ada Omo Mummy), Efe Irele (L.I.F.E), and Wumi Toriola (Aburo).
