Joke Silva Champions Fight Against Sexual Harassment in Film Industry
Joke Silva has called for the elimination of sexual harassment in the film industry, emphasizing the crucial role women play in shaping the nation’s narrative. “We need a safe and supportive environment for women to thrive,” she stated, highlighting that all forms of harassment undermine both individuals and society.
Silva also stressed the importance of dispelling negative stereotypes in films and advocated for increased female representation in government to strengthen policies benefiting the industry.
Life Coach Anita Duckworth-Bradshaw urged women who have experienced abuse to share their stories as part of their healing process, noting that addressing past trauma is vital for creating meaningful change within the industry. “We must confront the hurt to fully contribute to our work,” she said, emphasizing the need to replace harmful elements in the field with positive influences.
Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, co-founder of The African Women’s Development Fund, highlighted the need for women to view challenges as opportunities and to have access to platforms that showcase their talents.
Beatrice Eyong, Director of UN Women’s Country, stressed that women must become essential voices in the industry, advocating for decision-making roles and the adoption of guiding principles.
The event also included panel discussions aimed at building sustainable networks and improving infrastructure in the film sector.
